There are books that cover Scribus in detail. The
most recent useful one is "Scribus 1.3.5 Beginners
Guide" by Cedric Gemy. There are of course some
useful tutorials and a complete manual that you
can access once it is up and running.

Downloading and installing a useful version of
Scribus is straightforward. I am forwarding to
you under separate cover a draft pdf of the first
few pages of a book I am writing. On page 3 is
downloading instructions. Just remember to
substitute version 1.5.0 instead of 1.6.0 when
you reach the online download page on the web.
1.6.0 isn't released yet.
