Re: Pdf file size Original Message from John Beardmore
I seem to recall somebody saying that you could run Scribus
.pdf files through some tool or other, which made them a lot
smaller without noticeable loss of quality. Can anybody
remember which tool this is ? I have access to Linux boxes
too if needs be.
--------------------------The Script I use to do the job is a slightly modified version of the Perl script, compress_newsletter.pl, the original for which can be found here: http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Web_optimised_PDFI don't think the original works anymore, but the text file attached to this link: http://forums.scribus.net/index.php?topic=1727.0does work (at least in LINUX). Thanks to a member of the Victoria LINUX Users Group, I now have a modified script which does the major things I asked for, namely remove the .meta file and give an option of replacing the original PDF file instead of creating a new file called {original file name}.new.pdf which I will try to attach to a later E-Mail if I can find it (I am travelling right now and am not certain I have it with me right now) if attachments are permitted when posting to the Scribus list -- I have forgotten whether they are or not.
