Something we always like to make sure that users understand is that the
file format changes from one major series to the next. For example,
while you would be able to open a file saved with 1.4.6 into 1.5.2, once
you save it with 1.5.2, version 1.4.6 won't be able to open it.
As Peter says, the upcoming 1.5.3 has had some major reworking of the
text layout for CTL, maybe a reason to hold off on that version
specifically while you watch the mail list for issues people might see.
