Are there alternative file selectors out there, that wouldn't be too
hard to switch to?

It is, and for the docs I'm creating, page layout is the way to go.
But...
Software should always be moving forward, making it easier for the user
to use. In some areas, I see Scribus as sticking to 20 year old
methods, instead of moving on to different methods for accomplishing a task.

Thanks. But, it's a step that should not be necessary in 2017.
It's just part of my networking issues here, and seemingly most of them
are Windows related. I've got a couple Mac things to check later, so
we'll see.
