[scribus] pdf, import and convert

Dear Fritz,

The answer depends a bit on your expectations. PDF import in scribus is
intended to convert a PDF image into editable graphics objects. For that
process to make sense, the PDF should contain vector graphics. Scribus will
never be able to reconstruct structures like paragraphs, let alone a form
structure., so for most people PDF import does not do what they want to
achieve.

I have used Scribus to great effect to turn old paper forms into editable
forms. I scanned the paper forms into hi-resolution black and white tiff
scans. I inserted the scanned pages into a page-filling image frame as the
background. Then I drew the fillable form boxes.

There's a rather elaborate introduction in the WIki:
https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Your_first_PDF_form_with_Scribus . You can
skip the Javascript bits, and you should skip the outdated references to
Firefox.

But, as Gregory suggested, if you expect to import an existing PDF form,
click a few buttons and be done, you're probably going to be disappointed.

With kind regards,

Bert Driehuis
