Wouldn't an eps or embeddable pdf be better? Keeping the art in vector
form always works best for letterhead and similar. Especially if you
want to print up some offset lithographs.
(Also, you can create an alternative fonts.conf which doesn't have as
many <dir/> entiries (or has more specific <dir/> entries) and run
inkscape pointing libfontconfig there to avoid that bug; set the env
FONTCONFIG_PATH to the location of the alternate fonts.conf.)
