Missing a -lfreetype?  Or do you perhaps have freetype older than 2.1.3 
installed somewhere like /usr/local?  That symbol is new in 2.1.3 (or, I 
think, redhat's previously shipped 2.1.2).  If you have a freetype 2.1.2 
or older that's getting in the way of the "real" one you could end up 
missing that symbol...
