While not wishing to detract from Scribus, maybe you could look at Latex
as it could well meet your needs.

Warning *Steep learning curve* ahead but there is a newsgroup
comp.text.tex and
a lot of information on the web. It's free and there are versions for
Linux, Windows and Macs.
