If they have the same set of installed libraries, I would take the time
to make one machine a test box and create an rpm for all. I do not know
Suse really well, but I have a "generic" rpm spec file which should
work. then pull the rpm install from a shared directory or server.

Yes, not by default. Go Edit > Preferences > General > Display > Use
PDF 1.4 Transparency Features.
Be forwarned. 1) You need a real PS 3 printer to print the effect
properly. 2.) It takes a lot more video memory and processing power to
display these effects on screen, especially when editing.
That said, these effects can be quite stunning on screen, in a PDF and
in print. The only other DTP app which does this right is Indesign.
Quark has frankly, lousy on screen displays. Pagemaker can only do
transparency with clipping paths in Photoshop or via EPS with the .001
degree rotation trick.
