[Scribus] 1.2.x and 1.3.x formats

Since it seems that there will be some time to come in which file format 
incompatibilities will coexist, I wonder if it might make sense for 
Scribus 1.3.x to have an automated backup feature? 
For example, let's say you are in 1.3.0, have loaded a 1.2.3 file, made 
some changes, then save the file. You get the warning, of course, but 
perhaps also there could be a setting to automatically take the original 
file and preserve it, something like

'cp original.sla original.bak.sla' or 'mv original.sla original.bak.sla'

would accomplish.
