Is one another posibilities, if the image adjustment isn't to complicated, I mean need to made a little sharpness, contrast , luminosity... .; so this adjustement can be made with scribus intern image procesor. So, select the image frame, right-click on it and choose 'Image Effects' , (warning: do not exagerate with value of sharpen or unsharp-mask!) This effects will not modify the original image, but the exported will be.
Sorry again if my english isn't easy to understand.

Unfortunately X/3 hasn't made it across the ocean yet. Our printers
are totally ignorant of it. So a further conversion would still be
needed. I will experiment with this however. It might solve some
other problems.
