These are two different things:
- one is the master page, which has only items which appear on pages 
where the master page is applied (page number, repetitive items).
- the other is the text box (or other frames with images etc.) which has 
a different content on each page. This text box you get when you create 
the page. You need to check the box "automatic text frame" when you 
create the pages. If you insert a page later you need to check the box 
"move objects with the page". Then you get new text frames which you can 
populate with your text. The insert pages command messes up the link to 
the new frame on the new page, but this can be corrected easily.
(when I first started with srcibus it took me also some time to figure 
this out ...)
