May be you're using a PDF reader that doesn't support the 1.4 format.
One of my friends also had a similar complaint about a PDF done using
OpenOffice that I sent him although it opened just fine on my computer
- may be because I was using the lastest version of Adobe Reader.

I would suggest that you download the latest Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com.
